Help hold Boeing accountable for their donations to Congress Members who voted to overturn the 2020 election.

Help hold Boeing accountable for their donations to Congress Members who voted to overturn the 2020 election.

After the 2021 insurrection, top companies were quick to withdraw their support from the 147 members of Congress who denied the results of the 2020 election. Now in 2021, Boeing has donated $190,000 to 61 Congresspeople who voted against Joe Biden’s Presidency. Boeing’s tacit endorsement of this act of sedition cannot be ignored.

Seattle Supports Democracy and Fix Democracy First have organized to compel Boeing to rescind their campaign contributions to the Members of Congress who voted against democracy.  Campaign organizers in Seattle and Chicago, the city where Boeing corporate headquarters are now located, will be sending letters to members of the Boeing board of directors asking them to take this action.

“We demand that Boeing immediately stop donating to the campaigns of seditionist Members of Congress, and that the funds donated thus far be permanently withdrawn.”

Add your signature to the petition at: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/boeing-support-our-fundamental-democratic-values/

Write your own letters and send copies to news outlets, so more people will take action.

Rally in support of Defending Democracy
Thu Jan 6  6:00pm – 7:00pm

Join Fix Democracy First for a January 6 Virtual Vigil for Democracy on January 6, 2022 @ 6 pm PT. This is a virtual event and all are welcome regardless of where you live.

January 6 was a violent and deadly attack against all Americans – against our country, our democracy, and our freedom as voters to choose the leaders that represent us so that we have a government of, by, and for the people.

One year later, the same faction that attacked our country on January 6th is hard at work silencing our voices by restricting our freedom to vote, attacking fair voting districts, and quietly preparing future attempts to sabotage free and fair elections and with it our democracy.

So this January 6, exactly one year later, Americans across race, place, party, and background are holding candlelight vigils to say: In America, the voters decide the outcome of elections.

The promise of democracy is not a partisan issue but a calling that unites us as Americans. To prevent this kind of attack from happening again, our elected leaders must pass urgent legislation that will protect this country from anti-democratic forces who are continuing their efforts to destroy it.

Coming together, we can prevent another January 6th attack and realize the promise of democracy for all of us – no matter our color, zip code, or income – so we all have an equal say in the decisions that shape our daily lives and futures.

Redistricting: Speak Up Now Before Tuesday 10/5

Redistricting: Speak Up Now Before Tuesday 10/5

A bipartisan redistricting commission is debating ways to redraw Washington state’s current 10 congressional districts, shown here. Districts now held by Democrats are shown in blue; those held by Republicans are shown in red. The state redistricting commission is also redrawing the boundaries of 49 legislative districts. (Crosscut graphic)

URGENT:  The GOP is spamming the Redistricting Commission website in support of the Republican gerrymandered redistricting maps.  These maps do not align with the Redistricting Criteria:  RCW 44.05.090: Redistricting plan. (wa.gov)

Comments are needed on the  public record in support of the maps by House Member April Sims and Senator Brady Walkinshaw.  We suggest you identify yourself as a voter, a veteran, or a representative of particular community or organization – not a Democrat.  PLEASE ACT right away and get your written comments in here:
https://www.redistricting.wa.gov/participate/describe   (Written comments)

Verbal comments can be made on Oct 5th 7PM for LD maps and October 9th for CD maps: https://www.redistricting.wa.gov/submit-public-testimony   (Audio or video comments allowed). Registration link for the Oct. 5 virtual public outreach meeting:

Watch the first part of the WA Dems Redistricting Training video – how to shape and present your testimony.  Say your name, some identities, and make one-two clear points, then make an ASK: to support Sims or Walkinshaw map.

MAPS:   Here are the WA State Proposed Legislative Redistricting Maps by Commissioners April Sims (D), Paul Graves (R), Brady Pinero Walkinshaw (D), and Joe Fain (R)
https://www.redistricting.wa.gov/commissioner-proposed-maps

Here are the Redistricting Criteria:  RCW 44.05.090: Redistricting plan. (wa.gov)
  1. Nearly Equal Populations
  2. Coincide with boundaries of local political subdivisions and areas recognizes as “communities of interest”  Counties and cities should be divided as little as possible.
  3. Should be composed of convenient, contiguous, and compact territory.  There should not be barriers to transportation within a district
  4. Precincts should be wholly within a single LD.
  5. Shall consist of 49 legislative districts with the House having 98 members and the Senate having 49 members.
  6. Fair and effective representation and encourage electoral competition.  Shall not be drawn purposely to favor or discriminate against any political party or group.

Key Example of Talking points for LD28 (will be different for other LDs):

*Tacoma policies affect nearly by urban/suburban municipalities greatly (LNG, toxic superfunds, NW Detention Center, policing issues, homelessness, etc.).  Having West Tacoma citizens in LD28 allows for connectivity and input into Tacoma elections and decision-makers.

*LD28 should keep the West Tacoma portion in our community because the arterial road from Jackson changing into Bridgeport Way is the backbone of our district and waterways and ravines separate us from downtown Tacoma, South Tacoma and East Tacoma.  West Tacoma belongs with LD 28 is our community.

*We are suburban communities and we have nothing in common with rural communities to the south and east of us.  LD28 already represents a number of contiguous and underrepresented communities of interest.

*LD28 is already a purple (competitive) district.  It has a history of mixing Rs and Ds.  Only in 2020 for the first time ever, did we elect a black woman to the WA State Senate with a very slim majority.  We are proud that we have contributed to the diversity of the Senate by electing a person from an underrepresented group, won with 50.61% of the votes compared to her opponent receiving 49.19% of the votes.  We do not want to lose this important representation.

Local Candidates Need Our Help

Extremists are trying to pack school boards and city councils around the US.

You may not live in the City of Puyallup or within the Clover Park or University Place School Districts, but IT members believe all progressives in Pierce County must help thwart the extremists in those races.

A few voters can make a BIG difference in local elections. Help inform people about all our recommended candidates: talk to 3 people, ask them to talk to 3 people, and so on…

We urge all progressives to use our power by volunteering for the candidates – it’s how we make life better for our communities!

Yard signs, adding positive comments on their social media posts, phone banking, text banking, distributing campaign lit, donating, door-knocking (THE most effective!)

On September 14, Indivisible Tacoma presented these local candidates.

Here is the recording of that event:

The  presented candidates went through an endorsement/recommendation process which showed their views mostly aligning with the progressive views of IT.

(This process is ongoing and may result in more candidates being brought to the membership for recommendation.)
