General Election November 2021

General Election November 2021

Indivisible Tacoma members know local elections matter. Here’s what we did:

Encouraged people to run for office.

Evaluated candidates for endorsement.

Produced a forum to present them to membership.

Knocked on hundreds of doors

Put up signs, attended fundraisers, phone-banked, told our friends, text-banked, and waved signs to bring attention and increase turnout.

All the volunteers contributed to building a stronger community in Pierce County!

Congratulations to our candidates who won. The losses are disappointing, but we are hugely grateful to the candidates who stepped forward to run.

Indivisible Tacoma Endorses Yasmin Trudeau in the 27th LD

Indivisible Tacoma Endorses Yasmin Trudeau in the 27th LD

Indivisible Tacoma formally endorses Yasmin Trudeau for appointment to fill the seat of 27th LD Senator, vacated by Jeannie Darneille.  The Indivisible endorsement will be shared with the Pierce County Council who will vote on the selection on November 2.

Three candidates for the position were brought forward by the Legislative District 27 Democratic PCO’s, with Trudeau winning the first place position by 41 of 47 votes:

  • Yasmin Trudeau – Legislative Director and Tribal Affairs Manager for the WA State Attorney General’s office

  • Desiree Wilkins Finch – Community organizer and owner of consulting agency, RISE Leadership with a Purpose

  • LaMont Green – Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the policy nonprofit Technical Assistance Collaborative

Indivisible members acknowledge and admire the deep commitment and many contributions made in our community by Green and Wilkins Finch.

However, Trudeau’s work as an attorney and member of the CORE Leadership Team for AG Ferguson, her direct experience with policy development and successful legislation in WA State (Ending Youth Solitary Confinement, Student Loan Protections, Closing Wage-Theft Loopholes, Banning “undectable ghost guns,” etc.) make her stand out as one ready to immediately fill the role in Olympia.  Her responses to Indivisible’s questionnaire were impressive, and the 27th LD Democratic PCO’s overwhelmingly favored her above the other candidates. She has worked with Rep. Pramila Jayapal and expresses progressive views on issues important to Indivisibles, brings policy experience that would help her step into the role on day one (with her experience as Legislative Director in the AG office,) and will be an excellent candidate to hold the seat in the next election.

Please contact your own County Council representative and urge them to vote for Yasmin Trudeau!
