Speak Up For Immigrants!

Speak Up For Immigrants!

Last week, the administration extended “indefinitely” a CDC order to expel immigrants at the border, with no opportunity for asylum. This order purportedly is to keep us safe from COVID-19, but public health experts disagree.

Script:  I am furious about the unconscionable treatment of immigrant minors. Under the guise of public health, the administration has deported hundreds of children with no chance to apply for asylum or even making sure they are sent somewhere safe.  Please do everything you can to stop this, by making a public statement condemning the CDC order that was extended on Tuesday and the border agencies’ actions.

Please contact all three of your Members of Congress.

Script: Dear Mayor Woodards and Tacoma City Council Members:Please support a resolution to free everyone from NWDC. The Detention Center here in Tacoma already had big public health issues, and now it creates a public health crisis.  Please take real action now toward freeing these people. Contact ICE Field Office Director Nathalie Asher with an official plea on behalf of these human beings who are at great risk right here in our city.
Thank you.

Four More Weeks to Take Advantage of the
Indivisible National Fundraising Match!
We’re about half-way towards our goal. Though we continue to operate with 100% volunteer staff, we do not have monthly income right now from our general meetings while routine expenses continue. In these times, that means things like providing video conferencing software so our teams can organize across social distance, printing and our website costs.  Please see our full Fundraising Match Letter HERE

Now is the time to support Indivisible Tacoma as we build our power and gear up for the year. Please consider making a contribution today HERE.

Goal: To put pressure on Congress for the $4 billion funding, and protection for the Post Office, in the next CARES bill.

Any forthcoming legislation to address the impact of the coronavirus must include an additional $11.5 billion in Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funding.

This combined with the $4 billion previously provided in the CARES Act will reach the funding level needed to expand access to emergency shelter, short-term rental assistance, and housing stabilization services.

ESG funds should also be used to provide medical respite care, outreach, and street medicine for people experiencing homelessness.

Washington Prisons and Jails – Call the Governor
From the ACLU:
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread across Washington and the nation, Governor Inslee must take action to prevent an outbreak in Washington prisons and jails.
In Washington’s prisons and jails, the guideline for social distancing is impossible to adhere to.
Call the Governor and ask him to use his powers of clemency to protect our prisons and jails, and keep Washington safe.
