2022 Redeeming the Prophetic Vision is about:

…Bringing together a broad cross-section of the Tacoma / Pierce County community.

…Drawing our community’s attention to evidence of injustice in our own midst and the need for corrective action.

…Grassroots organizations’ stories of living out Dr. King’s call for peace and social justice.

…Lifting up young voices who are emerging to lead.

In this moment we gather to honor the visionary life and work of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., especially his radical call for peace and justice for ALL people.

The Conversation will once again partner with Associated Ministries and Urban Grace Church to bring to the community the 16th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Redeeming the Prophetic Vision.

This year’s interfaith, multi-ethnic service will feature a constellation of visual messages via music, performative arts, and the spoken word.

We are adding a special focus on uplifting the work and vision of local grassroots organizations that are committed–as is The Conversation–to building diverse, critically engaged, social justice communities.

We have invited a number of grassroots organizations to tell their stories with short videos, especially to capture how they are contributing to constructing an America that is inclusive, welcoming, and marked by the kind of clear vision of “Justice for All” that Dr. King, Ella Baker, and all who work in that long tradition labor to bring into being.

Wherever social justice work occurs, new voices are blending with long established ones chorusing justice. In producing and sharing this year’s event, we wish to elevate youth voices behind the scenes and on camera.

This community event is funded entirely by donations. Funds raised go to compensate artists and musicians, social justice awards, and the video production.

Help us to reach our fundraising goal this year so that we may honor the time and talent of these artists and community members who work for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s prophetic vision.
