RALLY AND CANVASS
Sunday, September 17 4-6PM
Oakland Madrona Park
3114 S Madison, Tacoma
Join 350 Tacoma for a short rally featuring inspiring speakers, followed by a brief training with tips for effective door to door canvassing.
From 5-6pm we will form small groups and head out into the neighborhood to leave fliers and chat with our neighbors to make sure they know about the planned mega warehouse, how it might impact us, and provide ways to take action.
All are welcome!
We will have snacks!
Please share this event & invite your friends!

Background on the mega warehouse:
The City of Tacoma permitted a 2.5 million square foot warehouse in South Tacoma for Bridge Point LLC. This mega warehouse could mean up to 12,000 vehicle trips per day through neighborhoods that already experience higher levels of pollution and serious health impacts.
Over 100 acres of greenspace above an aquifer recharge zone will be paved, potentially causing long term damage to our water supply, less tree canopy and displacement of wildlife. There is also concern that the type of jobs typically associated with large warehouses will not be union or living wage positions.
City of Tacoma gave this project a Mitigated Determination of Non-Significance, which is being appealed by 350 Tacoma and the South Tacoma Neighborhood Council. The City has also failed to conduct a Health Impact assessment.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
Tell the Mayor and your City Council Members to pass the full TENANT BILL OF RIGHTS using this letter: bit.ly/T4Aletter
Add impact… write your own Council Member personally.
From Tacoma for All: The landlord lobby knows our Tenant Bill of Rights is on track to win and are now pushing City Council to pass a watered-down alternative to take the wind out of our sails.
We have until May 25th to demand City Council say NO to the landlord lobby and support The People instead.

The Black Lives Matter Mural Project-Tacoma celebrates the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout history, drawing on Tacoma’s history and imagined futures.
The project is being implemented through a partnership between the City’s Office of Arts & Cultural Vitality, the Human Rights Commission, and the Tacoma Art Museum.
Artists Dionne Bonner, Kenya Adams, Gwen Jones, Charles Taylor, and Breeze are implementing the mural at Tollefsen Plaza (1548 Commerce St, Tacoma, WA 98402) this summer.
We have a variety of volunteer tasks throughout the next few weeks, and would love to have you join us to ensure the project is a success. Volunteers will help to ensure a physical presence onsite, show solidarity with the BLM movement, and answer questions from members of the public so that the artists are able to work efficiently.
Note that Tollefson Plaza is an accessible site and any roles which may require the ability to lift/carry/maneuver heavy or awkward items or to climb stairs are marked with a double asterisk**
Volunteer roles are as follows:
· Photography: Take photos of the work in action so we have consistent documentation of the project. We can’t provide a camera, but phone photos are great! Please share photos with blmmuralproject@gmail.com after your shift.
· Painting Help**: Assist the artists in helping mix paint, clean brushes, and set up/clean up on painting days depending on the time.
· Information Table: Pass out flyers & posters, give away items, and answer general questions about the project.
If you are interested in joining us as a volunteer, please use this sign up form link. We deeply value and appreciate the effort, care, and life volunteers bring to these projects! Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the opportunity to support this incredible mural project.
